*UPDATED* Unregistered Players Penalty

UPDATE 04 Feb 2024

Please see the letter from the league secretary below regarding the introduction of a penalty for unregistered players.

MVL Player registration enforcement.pdf

Penalty will now be introduced from 4th February 2024.

29 Dec 2023

Although conformity has generally been very good, there have been a few occasions since the start of the season where teams have played unregistered or wrongly registered players in matches.  We have been lenient so far by just issuing warnings to the associated teams.

However please take note that as from the 1st January, any such incidents will be penalised with the loss of 1 point per incident.

  1. For clarity, please can I check the following two statements are both true?

1 – Unstarred players from a men’s div 1 team may play for a men’s div 2 team without needing to be registered for the div 2 team, because rules state players may only be registered for one team in the league.

2 – Players from any women’s team (in any women’s div) can play for any men’s team (in any men’s div) but must be registered for the team they are playing for, so actually MUST be registered twice in the league.

Can you confirm both of those statements are correct, please?

    1. Hi Jamey

      To answer your questions:

      1. Correct
An unstarred player from an ‘A team’ in Div 1 can play for a B team in Div 2 without being registered for the ‘B team’. See Rules B.3.(d-h) for more info.

      2. Correct
No player may register for more than one team in Merseyside League, with one exception: women may play for team in a Men’s Division, (even if that team is from a different club) but must register as players for that club/team in the normal way. See Rule B.3.j.

      Competition Rules

      Hopefully this clarifies your questions?

  2. Hi, Is there a limit how many players can play down? Is there any limit or only to make 7?

    1. Correct
An unstarred player from an ‘A team’ in Div 1 can play for a B team in Div 2 without being registered for the ‘B team’. See Rules B.3.(d-h) for more info.

    Thanks,
    Raivo

    1. Hi Raivo

There is no restriction if the B team is playing in a lower division than the A team.
The limit to make up 7 players in Rule B.3.f. only applies if both the A team and B team are playing in the same division.
