The Merseyside League fixture meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at Alder Sports Club, L12 2AY starting at 7:00pm.
All teams wishing to play in MVL in 2023-24 must attend.
- Team Entry Form
Before the meeting each team must complete the league entry form on the Merseyside Volleyball League website (https://www.merseyvolley.co.uk/teamregistration/) which asks for contact information and details of proposed venues and home match days and times. Entries are now open.
If you are new to the league you should contact the League Secretary (preferably) at least two weeks in advance of the meeting with home venue, match days and times so that this information can be shared online prior to the AGM.
- Entry Fees
We propose (subject to confirmation by the AGM) that league entry fees for 2023-4 should be held at the 2022-3 level:Existing teams: £35
Junior teams (all players U18): £20
New teams: £20Tournament entry fees:
Des Jeffers Tournament £40
Brian Kendall Grand Prix £25 per round (if approved at AGM)Payments can be made at the AGM by cash or cheque or, in advance, by bank transfer. If you are paying by BACs (see BACs payment details below). Please ensure you clearly identify the team and the competition when you make the payment.
If your team is based at a college or university your payment may come from a 3rd party e.g. student union or registrar. In this case we can issue an invoice for payment but you should contact us with the details of the person/organization to be invoiced in advance of the AGM.

Bank: Virgin Money | Sort code: 05-09-65
Account name: Merseyside Volleyball League | Account no: 46738180 - Proposed Rule Changes for 2023-24
Proposed innovations (subject to confirmation by the AGM)
The committee proposes that two new awards are given each year to give recognition for (largely) voluntary services:Coach of the year – awards for nominated coaches of mens and womens teams.
The committee have nominated coaches for 2022-23 season but teams will be asked to vote on a short list in 2023-24 and subsequent seasons
Referee of the year
This award will be judged on star ratings and comments added to the electronic match results return form leading to an initial award for the 2023-24 season
Rule Changes / Updates for 2023-24 (Competition rules)Rule 4 – start times. Unless mutually agreed at the fixture meeting games should not be arranged to start before 7:00pm on weekdays and 10:00am on Saturdays and Sundays. The ‘season’ begins on October 11 and extends to May 19th 2024.
Proposed additional point in Rule 4: “Match Confirmations. Home teams are required to confirm the date, time and venue of the upcoming fixture at least three days before the match. This can be done by email or text.”
Rule 12 – Courts and equipment. In addition to the suitability of equipment the committee proposes to add guidance on the location of the venue, to formalise our previous ‘custom and practice’ approach.
“Teams wishing to join MVL with home venues outside the ‘normal’ boundaries of Merseyside must put their proposed home venue and day/start time to the other teams in their division who may object on the basis of unreasonable travel times.
In this case the new team can either:
– agree to play their home fixtures at the away venue (possibly as double headers) and make a contribution to the cost of hall hire, or
– arrange to play their home fixtures at a more accessible venue.Rule 14 – Clubs with teams in the same division. This is a reminder/ reinforcement of the rule that games between two teams from the same club should be played at the beginning of the season, and in any case before the end of November.
Constitution Changes / Updates for 2023-24
Item 11 – Financial Procedures – We question the need to continue with two bank accounts or the need for surety payments from clubs and propose that the two accounts be merged. The collection and administration of surety payments has fallen into disuse, no fines have been levied for many years and no clubs/teams that have left the league have attempted to reclaim their surety. In addition financial penalties no longer seem an appropriate response to rule breaking when points deductions would have more effect on team behaviour.
Proposed rule change:
“The Treasurer shall open a bank account under the account name ‘Merseyside Volleyball League’, the details of which shall be notified to members. This account shall be used for the administration of the League.” - Fines, penalties and sanctions
A list of offences, fines, penalties and sanctions will be posted on the MVL Website. - Brian Kendall Cup: (Grand Prix)
The committee is very keen for this commemoration of Brian and his contribution to the league to go ahead.
We propose a Grand Prix handicap competitions for men and women open to all MVL teams. This proposal will be put to the AGM for approval.Entry Fee: £25 per round
3 rounds: Saturday or Sunday, December 9/10,
Saturday or Sunday February 10/11,
Saturday or Sunday April 27/28Venue: Woodchurch HS (other clubs can volunteer to host)
