I’m looking at the Final League tables for the season just completed, and they make very good reading from the committee’s point of view. We’d like to thank all our teams on their good administration and on making the effort to get their fixtures completed.
Congratulations to the winners and runners-up in each division:
Chester men showed great consistency in their unbeaten run of 16 matches. They are deservedly Men’s Division 1 winners with Royals finishing strongly in second place.
Women’s Division 1 was a little more closely contested with Seahawks taking the title but dropping two matches near the end after a long unbeaten run. Second and third places were separated only on sets difference, Liverpool ladies taking second place by a single set over Everton.
Men’s Division 2 was won by Liverpool U18 after a late surge took them above University of Chester Men and the new, younger Royals women won Womens Division 2, dropping only one match during the season.
2022-23 was a good year, all the matches were completed (except Warrington Men who had to withdraw) and there were very few disputes, claims or complaints. We did pick up one or two pointers to take forward as rule amendments or reminders to the AGM/fixture meeting which will be held at Alder Sports Club on Tuesday October 10th. We’ll send out a detailed briefing note two weeks before the meeting.
Coach of the Year
The committee decided we should award annual coach of the year trophies
This year’s awards go to:
Male Coach
Martin Mierzwa for the amazing job he has done with his boys teams in both MVL and national competitions and for single handedly bringing down the age profile of our male players by around 25%
Female Coach
Simon Edwards for building up Seahawks women over three to four years into a team that deserves its place at the top of Womens Division 1.
Referee of the Year
We plan to introduce a similar award for referee of the year in the 2023-24 season and will provide additional fields on the form you use to submit results to ‘score’ referees’ performance after every match.
Brian Kendall Cup
We floated the idea of a Brian Kendall Handicap Cup to end the season at the 2022 AGM.and have been looking at ways to implement it over the last months and have decided on a beach tournament as set out below
