Interested in Joining the Committee?

Due to the recent sad passing of Alan, and also Raivo deciding to take a step back, there are therefore a couple of open positions on the MVL committee that we are keen to fill as soon as possible.

This is a great opportunity to support the the league, and help drive it to future success and expansion!

Please see the role descriptions below for more details of what these roles entail.

Although they may initially look a little daunting, please do not be put off!   The rest of the committee will welcome you and give you all the help and support you need!

If you are interested in either role please make contact with Andy Fuller (07931 791036).

Wirral Volleyball Club Meeting

INVITATION to PARENTS & PLAYERS

Meeting to discuss the future of

Wirral Volleyball Club

Tuesday 24th June 2025, 5pm
Wirral Grammar School for Girls, Dance Studio
(access via school carpark entrance)

Many of you will be aware of the sad and recent loss of Alan Bell, head coach and founder of Wirral Volleyball Club. It was unexpected and came as a great shock to us all at the club. Alan was loved by many I feel we should start this letter by saying how much he will be missed.

For those who don’t know, Alan started Wirral Volleyball Club over 30 years ago as a not-for profit organisation to provide, in his own words, “a community sports club for girls aged between 13 and 18 to offer weekly training sessions and the opportunity to play in local leagues and national age group competitions.”

Alan was proud of how well all his young players have done this season, with the U15 placing 5th in the VE U15 Gold Cup, the U16 being VE U16 Silver Cup Winners and the U18 placing 6th in the VE U18 Silver Cup. He had high hopes for next season.

Alan’s dedication and commitment to volleyball were second to none and the youth development of volleyball was his passion. He was a driver of junior volleyball development in the North West and as such we, and his family, feel that it would be fitting for us to do all we can to keep his club, Wirral Volleyball Club, alive.

With this in mind, we are looking to hold a meeting of parents and players. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in playing, be that continuing to play or interested in starting. We also ask the parents of players to please attend. In order for the club to continue there will be roles to fill and help needed and we would be keen to hear of any ideas or suggestions.  Andy Fuller, Chairman of the Merseyside Volleyball League, was a friend and colleague of Alan and has very kindly offered to run the meeting.

The aim will be to try to identify a path forward, together with the names of players who would wish to train and parents who may be willing to provide some initial support.  We very much hope for your support and to see you on the 24th June.

If in the mean time you have any questions which need to be asked prior to the meeting, or if you will be unable to attend but wish to be a part of the future of the club, please don’t hesitate to contact Andy on afuller704@gmail.com.

Our first Brian Kendall Juniors volleyball tournament was even more than I had expected.

All of the juniors left their heart on the court, fighting for every point. Loud cheering from the parents and smile on everyone’s face has assured me that we will come back next year even bigger and stronger!! I would like to thank everyone who helped and attended, the players, the parents and the coaches!!!

Wirral Girls – Come and Join?

It’s been a really good season for Wirral Girls in Volleyball England national competitions:

  • U16 Silver Cup winners
  • 5th place in U15 Gold Cup
  • 6th Place in U18 Silver Cup

Overall national rankings:

  • U15G 13th
  • U16G 15th
  • U18G 16th

The U15/16s are a really promising group and they’ve qualified to play in Volleyball England’s Gold Tier (9th-16th) competitions next season.

Unfortunately however we have only 7 or 8 players – not really enough to run a season-long campaign – and most of our U18s are off to Uni in September leaving the club desperately short of players.

MVL Juniors Tournament

We are pleased to announce that we will be running an Under 17 Tournament this year – see above for details.
